"The best horses in Heaven they have no tail.
This is a rule they all know without fail.
For when a new horse arrives with a short cut bob,
They all know that this horse did a very good job.
His owner could not bear to part with her friend,
So she saved his tail, wrapped in ribbons and in braids,
To hold with his memory in a very loving way.
To enter Heaven without a tail is an honor,
A message that without fail announces to everyone, far and wide,
That this horse was more than a wonderful ride.
But this horse was loved and cherished by one,
And when his time serving on this Earth was done,
He left behind a broken heart and a soul
From which he never will part"

Sherlock wasn’t just my horse—he was my true warrior and greatest inspiration. Known as The Fenian Warrior in his racing days, he lived up to that name every step of our journey together. Through eight years, he was my rock, standing by me through every milestone—graduating high school, commuting to college, and ultimately graduating—all while teaching me about strength, patience, and perseverance.
After fracturing his radial bone, Sherlock faced every challenge with courage and grace. He stood quietly, splinted and crosstied, never losing his spirit, always fighting to get better. Even in his hardest moments, eating candy and staying strong, he showed me what it means to be brave.
He taught me about the ups and downs of this sport—the highs where we soared and the lows that tested us. Sherlock kept me sharp, but he loved his work, jumping with perfect knees and even delighting in carrying little kids. He pushed me from being a passenger to a true rider, moving us up to bigger jumps and taking us to every big show, from Fieldstone to WEC. He ended his career confidently, nailing our derby goal and proving he enjoyed every moment.
Sherlock is the heart and soul of Barre Equestrian, the reason I strive each day to be my best self. Losing him has broken my heart, but his strength and spirit will inspire me forever. He was the horse with four perfect white legs who loved candy corn pumpkins and earned his place in my heart, teaching me that love and loss go hand in hand in this life.
Rest peacefully, my beautiful warrior. Heaven is lucky to have you—and so am I. I’ll love and miss you forever.
We honor Maverick—“Call Sign Maverick,” a beloved pony who found his way into our barn family and left us far too soon. It’s easy to celebrate accomplishments and bright moments, but sometimes the deepest love is in the unexpected, the quiet presence, and the unique spirit that touches all who meet him.
I believe animals live shorter lives because they discover their purpose, joy, and happiness faster than we do. Maverick lived fully and loved deeply in his 12 years with us. Though his quirks sometimes tested my patience, there wasn’t a more adorable or dedicated school pony. He took his job seriously and gave so much heart to every ride.
Maverick moved on unexpectedly to greener pastures and endless pop tarts, leaving behind a space that will never be filled. He was with his favorite person in the world when he left, carrying himself with the dignity only a true warrior could.
We never know how long we have with these empathetic souls. So hug your ponies tight and cherish every moment. Maverick’s spirit will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him. Rest peacefully, sweet pony—you are deeply missed and forever loved.
